Conrad started his journey with Pelican State Credit Union 30 years ago and has served as CEO for the last 22 years. When he began his career, Pelican had nine employees, zero branches and $10 million in assets. Under his leadership, Pelican now employs over 220 employees dedicated to serving over 45,000 members across Louisiana. With 12 full-service branches and over $300 million in assets, the credit union's commitment to the under served is evident through its actions. With a passion for breaking down the traditional barriers of banking and looking at more than just a credit score, Conrad has motivated his team to launch nationally award-winning financial education programs and progressive products that are completely focused on bringing Pelican members from debt to asset building. Pelican was recognized by the National Cooperative Business Association as the first credit union in the nation to certify its entire staff as Community Development Certified Financial Counselors. Conrad leads Pelican to actively maintain its designation as a Community Development Financial Institution, and the credit union has received three federal grants totaling over $3 million dollars to expand its reach of providing affordable credit to Louisiana residents of modest means in under served areas. Conrad is the Secretary Treasurer of the Board of Business Alliance Financial Services,LLC, a CUSO providing business lending services to credit unions across the nation. He also serves his peer credit unions in Louisiana as a Board Member of Credit Union Cooperative Branching. The example Conrad sets for his team is that of service to others. This cooperative spirit is demonstrated daily at Pelican through the management teams' actions resulting in Pelican being named one of the "Best Places to Work" in the Baton Rouge area for three consecutive years. |
